What Is Vibe Coding?

In February 2025, AI researcher Andrej Karpathy posted about a new way to make software. You just talk to an AI, “fully give in to the vibes,” and “forget that the code even exists.” He called it vibe coding, and before the year was out it became Collins Dictionary’s Word of the Year.

You describe what you want. The AI writes the code.

What That Means for You

You don’t need to learn to code to build a website anymore.

You tell Claude (an AI made by a company called Anthropic) what you want, in plain words. Claude writes the code, builds the pages, and fixes what breaks.

The version we’ll use is Claude Code. It works right on your computer, inside your project’s folder, so it can create and change real files for you.

So What’s the Catch?

Pure vibes go wrong in two ways:

  • Vague in, bland out. Say “make me a website” and you get a website. A generic one that looks like a thousand others.
  • Blind trust. Accept everything without looking, and things break in ways you can’t explain, let alone fix.

That’s what the done right part of this course is about.

Claude takes over almost all the hard technical stuff. But two jobs stay yours:

The 99% Idea

Of those two jobs, one matters far more than the other.

How clearly you describe what you want decides 99% of how good your website turns out.

Every detail you leave out, Claude fills in with a safe, boring default. Leave lots of gaps and you get a boring site. Describe it well and you get your site.

Developers call this gathering requirements (working out, in detail, exactly what you want). A big part of this course is about getting really good at it.

The other job is simpler: watch Claude while it works, and check what it made. If it heads the wrong way, you stop it and point it back.

Don’t Learn Every Tool

The web is full of tools with fun names: Next.js, SvelteKit, Astro, React, Vue, Tailwind. New ones show up every single year.

Here’s the secret: most of them do the same job. They just do it in slightly different ways.

So you don’t need to study them. When it’s time to pick one, ask Claude. Tell it what your site needs, and let it suggest a tool and explain why.

You’re not the builder anymore. You’re the one who decides what gets built.

The Loop

Everything you make in this course follows the same five steps:

  1. Describe it. Say exactly what you want.
  2. Plan it. Turn that into a step by step plan.
  3. Build it. Claude builds one small step at a time, while you watch.
  4. Save it. Keep a checkpoint of everything that works.
  5. Ship it. Put it on the internet.

Then you go around again with your next idea.

Notice the size of the arcs. Describing and planning take up the most time, and that’s on purpose. The building part is fast, because Claude does it.
